Theindonesiatoday.com - Government has granted key mining permits for the development of the Wetar Copper project in Wetar Island, Maluku.
The permits, issued by the Regency of Maluku Barat Daya under the new Indonesian Mining Law, are valid for 20 years.
They are mining business permit for copper mining operation (IUP) for PT Batutua Kharisma Permai and IUP for PT Batutua Tembaga Raya, both dated June 9, 2011.
"The Wetar Copper project has shown a significant role in job creation and new economic activities for the local community. My request is that the issue of the Wetar Copper operations permits will create a momentum for the business community to increase participation in local development," said Barnabas Orno, regent of Maluku Barat Daya in a statement released by Finders Resources Ltd to ASX this morning.
Finders is the operator of the Wetar Copper project with 95% interest. It comprises two high grade deposits, namely Kali Kuning and Lerokis. The development of Wetar Copper project comprises the brownfields expansion of the existing demonstration plant to 7,000 tons per annum of copper cathode, followed by incorporation of the Whim Creek plant to lift production to 25,000 tons per annum.
