Theindonesiatoday.com - Central government has on Sunday (May 29) handed over four geothermal working areas with potential generating capacity of 493 MW to three regencies and West Java provincial administrations.
Luluk Sumiarso, director general for renewable energy and conservation of energy, is quoted by Bisnis.com saying the hand over is done pursuant to Law No 27/2003 about geothermal. Regional administrations will then organize auctions for the working areas.
By law, if the geothermal working area is located within one regency, the auction shall be done by regency administration. But if the working area is located in more than one regency, the working area is handed over to provincial administration.
Only if the working area is located in five provinces that central government organizes the auction.
The working areas handed over today are Bonjol (200 MW) in Pasaman, West Sumatra; Mataloko (63 MW) to Ngada, East Nusa Tenggara; Gunung Endut (80 MW) to Lebak, West Java; and Gunung Ciremai (150 MW) to West Java provincial administration. (ferdi@theindonesiatoday.com)
