Theindonesiatoday.com - Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources has today set the Coal Reference Price (HBA) for February 2011 at US$127.05/tons, added $14.65 per tons compared to January 2011.
According to the ministry, the index jump was made in line with the rising global coal price due to major floods and Yasi Cyclone in Queensland, Australia in early this year which had disturbed coal supply. Other factor is the increasing demand for coal from India and China.
The HBA is using formula which refers to Indonesia Coal Index (ICI-1) average, Platts-1, Newcastle Export Index (NEX), and globalCoal Index (GC). HBA will apply to spot price (12-month less contract sales) while for the future price (12-month more contract) the reference price will be using the average of recent 3 months HBA and the current coal price for coal sales in 12 months.
According to globalCoal, the Newcastle Index as per 4 February stood at US$127.43 per ton, jumped 3.6% compared to the previous week at 28 January of US$122.43 per ton. Year to date, the number has slipped 0.8% compared to US$128.5 in 31 December 2010. (Theindonesiatoday.com)
