Altura Awaits Forestry License for Kalimantan Coal Production

SYDNEY, Indonesia Today - Altura Mining Ltd is confident in seeking Tabalong Project’s first coal production in 2012 even though it has yet to secure Forestry Land Use Permits for mine commencement, while its Indonesian mining services records better performance.

Altura has bagged Operation Production approval for its two mining licenses in South Kalimantan: Suryaraya Permata Khatulistiwa and Suryaraya Cahaya Cemerlang. The receipt of the approvals now paves the way for Altura to seek Forestry Permits from Ministry of Forestry, which is the key remaining permit required to allow coal mining to proceed.

Altura also has been looking for suitable potential partners for the Tabalong development. “The company is hoping that a successful conclusion to this process can be achieved in the near future,” Altura said on its quarterly report.

The Tabalong Coal Project is planned for initial production rate of 400,000 tons per annum of premium thermal coal with the plan to ramp up to 750,000 tons per annum. The current plans are for a surface mine with the product delivered to an off-take point to the west of Barito River.

Further exploration is planned for previously unexplored areas of the Tabalong tenements, which has a JORC Resource estimate of 13.4 million tons. Altura has established an exploration team plus a detailed geological plan that will be tested by drilling in 2012.

Meanwhile, PT Asiadrill Bara Utama, and PT Velseis Indonesia say better performance. Drill rig deployment increased due to the winning of new contracts.

Asiadrill operated up to 16 drill units consisting of track and skid mounted and man portable units, while Velseis Indonesia operates up to 11 wireline units. “The demand for units remains high and expected to continue at the current level in 2012,” the company added.
