Theindonesiatoday.com -- State-owned utility company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara said its steam-power plant PLTU Asam-Asam Unit II has been damaged since last Thursday, causing electricity shortages in thousands of homes in Central and South Kalimantan.

"There was damage to the Asam-Asam power plant unit II, which resulted in reduction of electricity supply in those areas," Kompas.com quoted public relations officer of PT PLN Central Kalimantan area, Anggraini, in Banjarbaru, Sunday.

She said PLTU Asam-Asam power plant damage occurred on its cooling generator, which broke out last Thursday. PLN is currently repairing the damage.

Few months AGO, similar damaged occurred at PLTU Asam-Asam unit I, which causing rolling blackouts experienced by thousands of customers in those two provinces.

"We still do not know what the cause of the damage, but the technical team has been sent to the area to repair the damage so that power supplies return to normalcy," he said.

Anggraini said the damage has caused electricity power supply to reduce to 58 Megawatts, far lower than normal power supply from the plant of 270 MW.
