What a day! Dow Jones Industrial Average slashed 3% on Thursday, while crude oil fell as much as 7.1% to US$64.9 per barrel on further drop in the euro and weak economic indicators in US.
Nasdaq swamped 3.74%. CAC-40, DAX, and Footsie closed substantially lower by 3.86%, 2.02%, and 1.65% in Europe Thursday. Energy stocks lost ground all over the world. Exxon and Chevron dropped 2.8% and 3% by midday in New York. Shell and Total also lost 3.23% and 3.84% respectively.
Xstrata, the world's largest thermal coal exporter, closed lower by 4.34% in London, while Peabody, the world's largest private sector coal producer, crashed 6.6%. Consol Energy and Arch Coal also dropped 7.69% and 7.9% by midday in US.
Metals saw one of their deepest cuts with Freeport lost 6.34%, Alcoa -6.37%, Rio Tinto -5.6%, Teck Resources -4.75%, and Chinalco -7%. Even Newmont lost 3.3%.
