JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - Production of crude oil in Sele Raya Merangin Dua of 1,300 barrels per day has been halted since January 23, 2012.

The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Body (BPMigas) said operator of the field stopped production after Musi Rawas Regent Ridwan Mukti ordered the termination of crude oil transportation using trucks.

In the letter, Ridwan unilaterally cancelled cooperation agreement between Sele Raya operator and Musi Rawas administration to use public roads for crude oil transportation.

"Local administration demands crude transportation through transmission pipelines," said PR division head of BPMigas this week.

Ridwan pointed to the action of local people in Mandiangi Villagi, Rawas Ilir sub-district on January 14, 2012, which closed down Bingin Teluk Bridge, behind the decision. Ridwan argued local people were disappointed by damaged road due to Sele Raya crude oil transportation.

Gde said BPMigas and Sele Raya have agreed to build transmission pipeline. "But needs few years to build that, so for the time being we need truck transportation," he said.

Construction of the 180-KM pipeline needs land acquisition and right of way (ROW) license because the pipe will pass conservation forest area. (Indonesia Today)
