R Priyono, head of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Body (BPMigas), said gas sector currently contributes 20-30% of state income. "For this year, state income from upstream oil and gas sector will reach US$30 billion," he said.
For maintaining gas production, Priyono said, the exploration activity known as Resources to Reserve to Production (R2R2P) must be intensified and supported by such a huge investment.
He noted within the past five years, investment in the upstream oil and gas sector totaled around US$55 billion, or US$11 billion per year. (ferdi@theindonesiatoday.com)
