Govt Build Special Prison for Corruption Convicts & Suspects

JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - Amir Syamsuddin, Minister of Law and Human Rights, plans to build detention center and penitentiary institution specific for corruption suspects and convicts, separated from other crime suspects and convicts.

According to Amir, the plan was a respond to a midnight illegal meeting between a corruption defendant and a lawmaker in the Cipinang detention center Wednesday (Feb 8). The special detention center and penitentiary institution is expected to avoid such an incident.

“We will separate the corruption crime suspects and convicts from the general crime,” said Amir.

The minister also assessed that besides a separate detention center, Law and Human Right Ministry also plans to install CCTV in the detention center and penitentiary institution, which will be accessible to the law ministry and his deputy's offices.

In addition, Amir said that the detention center and penitentiary institution officers will get a strict punishment if they are proven to receive illicit money from suspects and convicts.

Denny Indrayana, Deputy of law and human right ministry, on an impromptu visit to Cipinang prison had discovered a midnight meeting between M Nasir, member of commission III of The House from Demokrat Party, with his graft defendant brother Muhammad Nazaruddin, who is also former treasurer of the party.
