Tarmidzi Karim, Appointed Acting Governor of Aceh

BANDA Aceh, Indonesia Today – Abdullah Saleh, lawmaker at the Aceh House of Regional Representatives (DPR Aceh), revealed that Tarmizi A Karim is appointed acting governor of Aceh as incumbent Irwandi Yusuf ends his term Wednesday (February 8).

According to Abdullah, based on invitation from internal affairs ministry, Tarmizi will be sworn in tomorrow by internal affairs minister, Gamawan Fauzi.

“Today (Feb 7) I will depart, likely will Aceh governor Irwandi Yusuf to JAKARTA to attend the inauguration,” Abdullah revealed.

Abdullah stated that DPR Aceh has welcomed President SBY’s decision to appoint Tarmizi as Aceh acting governor. Abdullah said this is a wise decision.

Tarmizi will be replacing governor Irwandi until new Aceh governor elected in the election scheduled April 9. Tarmizi’s appointment might confirm earlier rumor that Tarmizi is SBY’s choice for Aceh acting governor.

Tarmizi was born in Lhoksukon, North Aceh. He is known a former North Aceh regent and former acting governor of East Kalimantan. He currently serves as head of education and training body at internal affairs ministry. Tarmizi’s name has previously been mentioned as Aceh governor candidate, who will be supported by a coalition of President SBY’s Demokrat Party and Golkar Party.

The internal affairs ministry previously submitted three candidates of Aceh acting governor to President SBY at the end of January 2012. They are Tarmizi Karim, Bachtiar Aly (a professor at University of Indonesia and former advisor of National Police chief), and Djohermansyah Johan (director general of regional autonomy at internal affairs ministry).
