Nazaruddin Demands Court to Summon Anas as WitnessJAKARTA, Indonesia Today – A defendant and former treasurer of President SBY’s Demokrat Party, Muhammad Nazaruddin, via his lawyer, Hotman ... Corruption | Wednesday, 22 February 2012 Read more |

JAKARTA, Indonesia Today – Leaders of President SBY's Demokrat Party demand clarity of party chairman Anas Urbaningrum's involvement in graft cases surrounding former treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin.
Executives of Demokrat Party have pushed the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to immediately give a legal certainty on Anas, especially in the high profile graft case of athelete dormitory. They’re worried allegation of Anas involvement in the case would worsen the party's already-damaged image.
At the same time, politicians were speculating on internal friction at KPK related to Anas. KPK chief, Abraham Samad, reportedly planned to sign warrant of arrest on Anas and Andi Mallarangeng (other Demokrat politician, who is now youth and sports affairs minister) on January 23, 2012. But then two KPK deputy chiefs, Busyro Muqoddas and Bambang Widjojanto, reportedly opposed Abraham’s decision.
Akbar Faisal, politician from Hanura Party and a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III (overseeing law, human rights, and security issues), claimed that he heard about the internal friction at KPK.
“We were informed about the incident. We heard that two persons should have been named new suspect in the case, but Abraham didn't get support from Bambang and Busyro," said Akbar on Thursday (Jan 26).
EE Mangindaan, member of Demokrat Party advisory board, who is also minister of transportation, said Demokrat Party will definitely hold an extraordinary congress (KLB) if Anas is named suspect in the case. He therefore asked KPK to work faster to clarify. “If (Anas) involved, KLB will be held. But we’re not planning into that direction, because the legal aspect is not clear yet. So, I think it’s better for KPK to work faster,” said Mangindaan.
Mangindaan is one of possible candidates to replace Anas. Two other names are reportedly Djoko Suyanto (former military commander, who currently serves as coordinating minister of politics, law, and security affairs) and Melani Leimena Suharli (member of Demokrat Party supervisory council, who currently serves as deputy speaker of People’s Consultative Council/MPR).
Mangindaan, however, denied about internal discussion to dismiss Anas. He also dismissed speculation about his nomination.
Syarief Hasan, other member of Demokrat Party supervisory council, has also urged KPK to give a certainty over Anas’ status. “Anyway, we’re waiting, the faster will be better,” told Syarief.
Ramadhan Pohan, deputy secretary general of Demokrat Party, meanwhile, admitted that Nazaruddin’s allegation and also the allegation of Anas involvement in the case have given negative impact to his party. “I admitted it’s negative for Demokrat.. all elements in the party agreed to the law enforcement. It means, anyone implicated with at least two instruments of evidence, please be prosecuted,” Ramadhan asked.
The allegation of Anas involvement in the case has been mentioned formally before court hearing by two witnesses. They are Mindo Rosalina Manulang (marketing director of PT Anak Negeri) and Yulianis (vice finance director of Permai Group), both are companies controlled by Nazaruddin.(haryanto@theindonesiatoday.com)
