Theindonesiatoday.com - The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III (overseeing law, human rights) has finally agreed to proceed with a fit and proper test on eight candidates of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) new leaders.
Majority of factions at the House Commission III have on Monday agreed to process the eight candidates of new KPK leaders.
They are President SBY’s Demokrat Party, Golkar, United Development Party (PPP), National Awakening Party (PKB), and Gerindra. Two other factions (PDI-P and Hanura), however, insist to ask ten candidates, while two other factions, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and National Mandate Party (PAN), have requested to postpone the selection.
According to Ahmad Yani, one member of the House Commission III, starting tomorrow, the House will officially announce the eight candidates of new KPK leaders to public via national media to get some feedbacks.
The eight candidates of new KPK leaders, recommended by a selection committee consisted of government officials and civil society leaders, have been submitted by President SBY to the House on August 19, 2011.
The Selection Committee on it recommendation has named four names from eight candidates who got the best rankings. They are Bambang Widjojanto, Yunus Husein, Abdullah Hehamahua, and Handoyo Sudrajat. While the other four candidates are Abraham Samad, Zulkarnain, Adnan Pandu Praja, and Aryanto Sutandi.
The House Commission III has been delaying the fit and proper test of new KPK leaders for quite sometime now. Golkar, the second largest party in the House, initially joined PDI-P and Hanura in demanding 10 candidates. They were referring to the Article 30 paragraph 10 Law 30/2002 about KPK, which stipulates that the House shall choose five new leaders of KPK and also Article 30 paragraph 9 stating that number of candidates submitted to the House shall be twice of the amount needed.
The House should choose four new KPK leaders before Desember 18, 2011 because the term of four KPK leaders (Chandra M Hamzah, Bibit Samad Rianto, M Jasin, dan Haryono Umar) will end by then. (haryanto@theindonesiatoday.com)
