Pressures Intensify to Investigate Andi Nurpati's Forgery Case

Theindonesiatoday.com - Lawmakers mounted pressures toward national police to investigate the allegation of forgery of State documents by Andi Nurpati, former executive at the General Election Commission (KPU), who is now executive of President SBY's Demokrat Party.

"I demand an immediate investigation into the forgery case. Why police acted so quickly in the case of Misbakhun (legislator from the Prosperous Justice Party/PKS, alleged of corruption), while slow on this (Andi Nurpati) case," asked Aboebakar, politician from PKS, to police chief Timur Pradopo in a hearing Monday (June 13) as reported by Mediaindonesia.com.

"I demand police chief to immediately work on this forgery case. Why police chief looked very slow in responding (public calls on this case)," asked Bambang Soesatyo, legislator from Golkar Party.

In the meantime, Mahfud MD, Constitutional Court chief, who first disclosed the case, expressed his support for the establishment of a working committee by DPR to investigate the case. "I think, police needs political support to reveal the scandal," said Mahfud.

Interestingly, police chief Timur Pradopo insisted that the Constitutional Court had never filed an official report to the police regarding the forgery allegations. Timur said Zainal Arifin Husein, a clerk at the Court, came to the Police HQ on February 12, 2010 to file a letter from Constitutional Court. Zainal promised to come back on February 15 to make a police report, but never returned to the police, Detik.com reported.

But with the pressures from lawmakers at the House Commission III, Timur promised to investigate the case.

Constitutional Court chief Mahfud MD had described the chronology of this scandal implicating Andi Nurpati Baharuddin, former KPU member, who is now head of public communication division of President SBY's Demokrat Party. Mahfud also said there were four people who helped Andi to falsifying the State document.

Mahfud revealed what he believes as a strong forgery case, where Andi allegedly falsified State documents. Andi falsifying the Constitutional Court's decision about the failure of Dewi Yasin Limpo, sister of the South Sulawesi governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo and a legislator candidate from Hanura Party, to win a seat in the House of Representatives (DPR) representing one of electoral districts in South Sulawesi.

Mahfud was filed a police report on February 12, 2010 and Mahfud insisted that Andi Nurpati's name is written clearly in Page 2 Point 5 of his report to the police. But police still insist that Andi Nurpati’s name is never written in that report. (haryanto@theindonesiatoday.com)
