The decision was made in a meeting of the Regional Consultative Council (Muspida) of Tolikara, Papua Thursday.
“The security condition right now is not possible (for the election), because concentration of mass caused tension. Muspida’s meeting then decided the election has to be postponed until things improved,” said AKBP Rahmat Siregar, Tolikara Police head yesterday.
Rahmat explained that concentration of mass was seen in several locations at Karubaga, Tolikara. They, according to Rahmat, were grouped and carrying arms such as cleavers and arrows. Rahmat also revealed that the group of people involved in a clash on February 15 have burnt down the office of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), President SBY’s Demokrat Party, thirty houses, two cars, and one motorcycle.
“There was also information about one man killed, but until now we haven’t received the complete informatio,” Rahmat said.
According to Rahmat, more police officers from Jayawijaya have been deployed to Tolikora to help securing the area. (haryanto@theindonesiatoday.com)
