Theindonesiatoday.com -- Nadine Alexandra Dewi Ames, who is representing JAKARTA city provincial government (DKI Jakarta 4) was crowned as Miss Indonesia 2010 last night. After she was declared as the winner, Qory Sandioriva, Miss Indonesia 2009, handed over the crown to Nadine Alexandra.

Mexican-born Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete, who also attended the event held at the Assembly Hall of Jakarta Convention Center, pinned the crown to Miss Indonesia 2010. She also congratulated the newly-crowned Miss Indonesa 2010. Nadine Alexandra will also get one unit of car  as prize and will get  payroll from PT Mustika Ratu for one-year. She will represent Indonesia in the Miss Universe 2011 event.

Nadine Alexandra, born on May 23, 1991 in U.K., defeated 37 other contestants after impressing juries with her answers.

Alesandra Khadijah Usman from Gorontalo secured number 3 position (runner up 2) and awarded as Miss Tourism Indonesia 2010, while runner up 1 was grabbed by Reisa Kartika Sari from Jogyakarta and awarded with the status as Miss Environment Indonesia 2010.

The Runner Up I, Reisa, will also get the chance to take part in the Miss Pageant International 2011.

Prior to the Grand Final event, the 38 finalists were ‘quarantined’ for 10 days. The theme of this year’s Miss Indonesia is, “Loving the Nation through the Usage and Appreciation of the Works of the Nation’s children.” The Miss Indonesia event was organized by Yayasan Puteri Indonesia (YPI).

Nadine was quoted by detik.com that she is determined to do better in the coming Miss Universe event compared to other participants from Indonesia in the past. “I have learnt to ensure that Indonesia can do better in the future,” said Nadine Alexandra, who is currently studying Film and Screen at Bath Spa University, U.K. Nadine was born and raised in the U.K.

Indonesia has never won the Miss Universe since taking part in the event. The participation of Miss Indonesia in the Miss Universe event has been often marked by protests by some conservative groups, arguing such event does not represent the culture of Indonesia as they have to wear bikinis at some point. This forced representative from Indonesia at the Miss Universe to wear one-piece swim-suits.

This year’s Miss Indonesia event was chaired by Arman S. Tjitrosoebono. Miss Indonesia 2010 was the 15th event, since it was started in 1992.
