Motorboat Capsized at Bunaken Killing 1 DPR Member, 10 Others Injured

Motorboat that were taking a number of House of Representative (DPR) Commission III members capsized in Bunaken waters, North Sulawesi on Saturday. Setia Permana of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and wife of DPR member from Democratic Party, Sucipto, were killed during the accident, detik.com reported.

“From the information that I received, the boat was hit by high wave, causing the boat to turn upside down,” said the House of Commission III head, Benny K. Harman.

Benny said he was supposed to join the group, but he returned early last night.

Meanwhile, member of Commission III, Ruhut Sitompul of the Democratic Party said the boat, which carried 15 passengers, was actually about to arrive at the harbor. Suddenly, a big wave hit the boat, causing the accident.

Other House members that suffered light injured were H. Otong Abdurrahman, Dimyati Natakusumah, Abubakar Al Habsyi, Nudirman Munir, Nurdin and Cipto. They were currently being treated at a local hospital, RS Bhayangkara.

“Nudirman brought with his wife, while Cipto also took his wife and child. Cipto’s wife was killed during the accident,”

The head of PDIP faction, Tjahjo Kumolo said the body of Setia Permana will be flown to JAKARTA from Manado this afternoon and taken straight away to Bandung.

Setia Permana was former head of West Java Election Commission (KPUD) for 2004-2009. He resigned prior to the legislative election in 2009, as he decided to join PDIP.
