Antasari Continues Seeking Justice & Freedom

JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - Antasari Azhar, former chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), continues to seek justice, including an effort to bring the case to the International Commission of Human Rights.

Juniver Girsang, lawyer of Antasari, said his client has yet to give up in seeking justice and freedom despite the Supreme Court's ruling, which turned down his case review and affirmed 18 years prison sentence. Juniver insisted his client is not guilty in the murder case of Nasrudin Zulkarnaen.

“Of course we will ask for justice to International Commission of Human Rights.. PK (The case review) haven’t touched the substance of the issue, and based on fact and testimony from expert witness in the trial, there’s no statement that Antasari has sent a threatening SMS (Short Message Service) to Nasrudin. So, Antasari isn’t a mastermind and he has no relation with the murder,” Juniver said firmly.

Djoko Sarwoko, member of the panel of judges in the case review, meanwhile, explained that the panel of the supreme judges did not find any mistake in the previous verdict.

According to Djoko, the panel of the supreme judges have considered all arguments filed by Antasari’s lawyer team, but the judges found no novum (new evidence) there. Related to the testimony from expert witness and a forensic expert, Djoko said that judges didn’t find its relevance. “The important aspect is that there’s a dead man in this case,” Djoko said.
