Aburizal Reports Demokrat Executive to Police for Defamation

JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - Aburizal Bakrie, Golkar Party Chairman, files a report to the Jakarta Metro Police against Ramadhan Pohan, deputy secretary general of Demokrat Party, for defamation.

Aburizal stated that Ramadhan Pohan has committed defamation and violated article 310 and 311 of Indonesia Criminal Code, with a maximum of 4 years prison.

Rudy Alfonso, lawyer of Aburizal Bakrie, said that he has sufficient evidences to bring Ramadhan Pohan to the court. The evidences, among others, are news article in JPNN (Jawa Pos) which quoted Ramadhan Pohan's statement that the troubled mining company PT Sumber Mineral Nusantara (SMN) is Aburizal’s ATM machine.

The article, published on January 6th, 2012, according to Rudy, was quoted by several others media and caused damages to Aburizal. The next evidence is a document listing the names of PT SMN shareholders, which does not contain the name of Aburizal Bakrie.

Aburizal Bakrie has on January 19th filed a subpoena against Ramadhan Pohan, for the statement. Pohan, however, said that the subpoena does not affect his eagerness to investigate PT SMN's relation with Aburizal Bakrie.

The subpoena, according to Pohan, was wrongly addressed because he issued the statement in his capacity as member of The House. Pohan argues that instead of filing a subpoena, Aburizal should have filed a report to the press council.

The case started when Pohan questioned the intention of Fery Zulkarnai, Bima Regent and Head of Golkar in West Nusa Tenggara, in fiercely defending PT Sumber Mineral Nusantara, because the company supports Fery in the regional election.

Moreover Ramadhan also accused Sumber Mineral is an “ATM machine” for Aburizal Bakrie. “There is a strong indication that PT Sumber Mineral Nusantara is an ATM machine for Aburizal Bakrie and his group,” said Pohan at that time.

On December 2011 there were clash broke out of a protest from local residents against gold mine operation of PT Sumber Mineral Nusantara over a 24,984 hectares. Residents reject mining operation because of its location nearby rice fields and residential area. (indra@theindonesiatoday.com)
