JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - Mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia appoints Rozik B. Soetjipto as new president director, replacing Armando Muhler. Rozik will be assisted by an Executive Committee chaired by Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Chief Executive Richard Adkerson. While Armando Mahler becomes a Senior Advisor to the Executive Committee.
"This morning I announce the change in Freeport Indonesia's management as we have known that the company was facing some problems such as workers strike and security issue which had impacted on the revenue decline in the fourth quarter of 2011," Richard said.
He said Freeport will continue discuss and coordinate with the local government and residents to create a conducive environment for Freeport's business.
"That is why, we need to restructure the organization, for facilitating the communication will all parties," said Richard as quoted by Detikfinance.com.
"Rozik have been long working at Freeport Indonesia, and since 2,000 he was acting as commissioner. He also knows and understand all Freeport's contracts. This is our effort to restore the communication with all shareholders."
“The new management organization will enable us to renew our commitment to operate the Grasberg mine in Papua in a safe, efficient and world class fashion for the benefit of our employees, the local community, and the Republic of Indonesia, and to achieve enhanced representation of the Company with Indonesian governmental officials and other stakeholders in Jakarta,” said Rozik.
Rozik has served on the Board of Commissioners of PT Freeport Indonesia since 2000. He is a mining engineering graduate of Bandung Institute of Technology and has masters and doctorate degrees in
metallurgical engineering from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium.
He held various senior positions in the Department of Mines and Energy for a number of years, including as Director General of Mines from 1998-1999 and served as State Minister of Public Works from 1999-2000. Rozik was also commissioner of state miner PT
