Four Cabinet Members Ordered to Bring Home Overseas Assets of Bank Century

JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - President Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered Attorney General, Minister of Law and Human Rights, State Secretary Minister, and Minister of Finance to make a strategic action in order to bring home overseas assets of Bank Century.

The president has on January 20th, 2012 issued Regulation No 9/2012 about the asset recovery of Bank Century (now Bank Mutiara), Kompas.com reported. The consideration of the presidential regulation, among others, is that the assets recovery attempts need a Mutual Legal Assitance (MLA).

The presidential regulation gives more authorities to minister of law and human rights, such as directly appointing legal consultant, establishing a supporting team, and coordinating with state secretary minister, attorney general, and minister of finance. The team will be supervised by Vice President Boediono.

Attorney General Office has repeatedly stated that overseas assets of Century amounted to Rp3 trillion, which spreads in Hongkong, New Jersey, Switzerland, England, Cuba, and others.

In a related development, The House of Representatives has on Thursday (Jan 26) summoned Robert Tantular, former owner of Bank Century. According to Denny Kailimang, Robert’s lawyer, his client was asked to provide lawmakers information about the domicile of Bank Century’s assets. (indra@theindonesiatoday.com)
