no Partowidagdo, Supreme Court Releases Widjajono from Charges

Theindonesiatoday.com - The Supreme Court has affirmed lower court's ruling on Widjajono Partowidagdo, who is now deputy minister of energy and mineral resources. The court releases him from charges of damaging forest area in the construction of road to his private villa.

Detik.com reported Friday night that the Supreme Court affirmed ruling from Bale Bandung District Court, which set Widjajono free from all charges.

The case started out in 2003 when State prosecutor alleged Widjajono of damaging forest area in Masigit Mountain, Bandung regency, West Java. Widjajono allegedly opened up a road for four-wheel vehicles to the villa prior to the issuance of license.

He was charged of violating Article 40 Paragraph 1 of Law No 50/1990 on Natural Resources Conservation and Article 50 paragraph 3 of Law No 41/1999 about Forestry. Prosecutor demanded five months jail sentence in the case. (haryanto@theindonesiatoday.com)
