Theindonesiatoday.com - French Company Hager Electro SAS has filed a trademark lawsuit to the Central JAKARTA Commercial Court against Hanlu, local businessman, over the electrical appliances brand ‘Hi Ger’.

Bisnis Indonesia quoted the company saying through its legal representative, Sani Effendi, that the defendant has registered Hi Ger brand without a good faith, since it has an essential similarity with Hager’s Hi Ger.

On the lawsuit registered under No.99/Merek/2011/PN.Niaga.Jkt.Pst, the plaintiff stated that the defendant’s brand has several similarities in principle, namely in the name and pronunciation. According to the plaintiff, it could cause an impression that the defendant’s brand is related to the Hager.

Sani also explained that his client’s brand has been registered since September 21st, 1988, and renewed on September 21st, 1998 to protect electrical appliances, while the defendant’s Hi Ger has just been registered on June 30th, 2010.

Hager Electro, therefore, claimed as the exclusive owner of Hi Ger brand in Indonesia, and demanded the court to revoke defendant’s brand registration and ownership.

The trial has just entered summon of the disputing parties and will be continued on December 13th, 2011. (indra@theindonesiatoday.com)
