Bumi Resources executive quizzed on bribery scandal

The national police detectives have questioned Deny Adriaz, vice president finance PT Bumi Resources (BUMI) Tbk, as witness in connection with alleged bribery involving former tax officer Gayus Tambunan.

Yovianes Mahar, a director at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, said Deny was quizzed to verify Gayus' earlier confession to investigators that he received payments amounting to US$500,000 from BUMI, the same amount from Kaltim Prima Coal, a subsidiary of BUMI, and US$2 million jointly from KPC and Arutmin (also a subsidiary of BUMI) to help the companies in various tax disputes with Tax Office.

"We found no sufficient evidence of a link with the case yet," Yovianes said as quoted by Kompas.com.

In the meantime, Media Indonesia reported that Gayus confessed to detectives that he received money from Deni Adrian (Deny Adriaz) twice. The first was US$3 million to help KPC's tax in the financial year of 2001-2004 and US$2 million for financial year of 2005-2006.

Gayus' superior MPM reportedly received US$1.5 million, according to the minutes of examination dated April 3rd, 2010. Gayus himself got US$500,000, while two brokers identified as AL and ICM received US$500,000 each.
