JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will present minister of youth and sports Andi Mallarangeng in the athlete dormitory graft case trial Wednesday (Feb 22) as witness for Muhammad Nazaruddin, defendant of the case and former treasurer of Demokrat Party.

Andi is also key figure at President SBY's Demokrat Party. He lost the chairmanship race in 2010 to Anas Urbaningrum.

Testimony of Andi Mallarangeng is needed to reveal the graft case in the construction of athlete dormitory for SEA Games event last year. In addition, KPK will also present Paul Iwo (businessman), Nining Indra Saleh (Secretary General of The House of Representatives/DPR), and Wawan Karmawan from PT Duta Graha Indah (DGIK) Tbk, winner of the athlete dormitory EPC contract.

Johan Budi, KPK spokesperson, stated the anti-graft commission hopes that Minister Andi will assist investigation into the case by revealing everything he knows before the panel of judges Wednesday. “We hope Mr. Andi will give a very truthful statement,” said Johan Budi as quoted by Detikcom.

Nazaruddin told a court hearing on December 2011 that Angelina Sondakh, graft suspect and Demokrat Lawmaker, has admitted of receiving Rp9 billion from Minister of Youth and Sports Affair Andi Mallarangeng, in front of an internal investigation team of Demokrat Party.  Andi, however, denies that he had given Rp9 billion to Angelina. “It was not true at all, I did not give anything to Angelina,” said Andi that time.

PPATK has earlier hinted that one or two ministers are linked to illicit funds of Muhammad Nazaruddin, former treasurer of President SBY's Demokrat Party. "Is there any minister linked? Not too many...one or two," said M Yusuf, head of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK). (indra@theindonesiaotday.com)
