JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - Jakarta Corruption Court has dropped two years imprisonment against Murman Effendi, suspended Seluma Regent, for his involvement in a graft and bribe case, Tuesday (Feb 21).

Panel of judges, chaired by Marsudin Nainggolan, declared Murman guilty for committing corruption by giving out money in form of cheque amounting Rp100 million - Rp150 million each and cash amounting Rp1-1.5 million to 27 members of Seluma House of Representatives (DPRD) 2009-2014 period.

The bribe money was given by Murman to pass the Bylaw No 12/2010 about development of infrastructures. The judges declared Murman guilty of violating article 5 (1) b of Corruption Law No 31/1999. In addition to the jail term, the judges also fined Murman Rp100 million, which can be replaced with another two months imprisonment.

The verdict was lighter than five years jail term demanded by public prosecutor for his involvement in a graft case, added with fines amounting Rp250 million, which can be replaced with six months additional jail term.

On the previous trial, the prosecutor explained that the defendant along with Head of Seluma DPRD, Zaryana Rait, has directed the member of Seluma DPRD, who received the bribe in form of money and cheque of Bank Central Asia Bengkulu branch, to pass the bylaw. The defendant then ordered his staff Erwin Panawa to set the victory of PT Puguk Sakti Permai in the tender.

The prosecutor said that PT Puguk Sakti Permai is owned by the defendant because the management positions were filled by his families, while his son, Joresmin Nuryadin, was the president director. (indra@theindonesiatoday.com)
