Law

JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - Jakarta Corruption Court has on Monday (Jan 30) sentenced Dhanarwati, bribe defendant of Regional Infrastructure Development Acceleration (PPID) program at the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry.

The court declared Dhanawarwati guilty of violating article 5 paragraph 1 of Corruption Law for bribing I Nyoman Suisnaya and Dadong Irbarelawan, officers of the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry.

In addition, panel of the judges, chaired by Eka Budi Prijanta, also fined the defendant Rp100 million which can be replaced with 3 months addition imprisonment. The sentence was lower than prosecutor's demand of 4 years imprisonment.

The case has been under the spotlight after the case was reportedly involved Manpower and Transmigration Minister, Muhaimin Iskandar. On the trial State Prosecutor even mentioned in the indictment letter that Muhaimin Iskandar, Minister of Manpower and Transmigration, received Rp2 billion grafts from Dhanarwati, suspect in the bribery case at the ministry's project.

“(Graft money was given to) Muhaimin Iskandar as Ministry of manpower and Transmigration, Jamaluddien Malik, I Nyoman Suisnaya and Dadong Irbarelawan," said Prosecutor Dwi Aries Sudarto before the court in the trial of Dhanarwati, I Nyoman Suisnaya and Dadong today.

The case broke out after The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested Dhanarwati, I Nyoman Suisnaya and Dadong in August 2011 and seized Rp1.5 billion kickback funds allegedly related to the Rp500 billion project at the ministry. (indra@theindonesiatoday.com)
