What People Say if SBY Pursues a Film Career?

JAKARTA, Indonesia Today – Public discussed intensely about a report that President SBY will starting his film career in a movie titled ‘The General’s Message’ with scheduled shooting early next month.

The report itself came from a teenager actress Dinda Ahauw, who will be part of the movie. Dinda said she feels very lucky that she will be acting in the same movie with SBY. Even Dinda revealed that there are several ministers and regents as 'actors' in the movie. “I’m surprised too, because there will be regents and ministers. Hopefully Pak SBY can also play (his role),” Dinda said.

The State Palace, however, dismissed the report. President SBY’s spokesperson, Julian Aldrin Pasha, stated that he was surprised reading the report. He said that until now, there’s no invitation to SBY to act in a movie. Julian, however, said that if there is an invitation, SBY will considering about the time slot. “That will be considered, whether the time is right or not. One thing is clear that I haven’t heard any information yet that the president will participate in a movie shooting. Let's see,” told Julian.

While Sutan Bhatoegana, lawmaker from President SBY’s Demokrat Party, said that the movie will be more fun if Angelina Sondakh (Demokrat lawmaker), who is now a graft suspect, could join in the movie. “It will be not Box Office anymore, it's Out of Box,” said Sutan jokingly. Angelina was an actress before joining Demokrat Party.

Move producer has also denied the report. Executive Producer from Prima Media Sinema, Tri Bayu Aribowo, apologizes for Dinda’s statement about the involvement of SBY, ministers, and regents in his movie.

“We apologize for mistakes in the interview by Dinda Hauw. She misunderstood about President in the scenario as SBY.. there are no involvements of SBY, ministers and regents.. But if SBY feels challenged (to join), we’re pleased,” Bayu explained.

Bayu also said that the movie shooting will still start on early next month in Malang, East Java. Bayu claims that the movie is far from any political interest. He, however, said that he will still ask a permission first to SBY about the movie, because his movie will use the president’s character.

What people said about the report?

“It’’s better for the president to stay focus and seriously work. Acting in a movie, especially as a main actor, will be time consuming, and absorb his energy and mind. SBY’s time as president is only two years left. SBY should leave a memorable decisions to build the Nation and the State, not building his own image through a movie,” said Yusril Ihza Mahendra, former SBY’s minister.

“When he gives a speech, SBY indeed shows his awesome acting capability. Especially when he said, ‘I’m concerned’. So, I agree if SBY joins the movie. It could trigger him to be conscious when the director says ‘Action!' ” PDI-P lawmaker, Rieke Diah Pitaloka, jokingly commented.

“If SBY plays in the movie, it means SBY is not a person who give solution to solve the problem of this Nation. People need real solution,” said FITRA coordinator, Ucok Sky Khadafy, seriously.

“Hahaha.. It’s not a surprise, but it could be the funniest news of the century. Apparently we only have a president who can work in a movie, not in the real world,” said Munarman, spokesperson of Islamic Defender Front (FPI).

“Oh my God, what kind of President is he?” asked one twitter account.

“Seriously ???” another tweep shocked.

“The title must be The Tragedy of Apel Washington,” said another twitter account jokingly (Apel Washington is the term for US dollar bribery). (haryanto@theindonesiatoday.com)
