Andi Mallarangeng, Denies Allegations in Court

JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - "I don't know", "I'm not sure", "I forgot", "No", "Never" were the main answers of Andi Mallarangeng, minister of youth and sports, when prosecutor asked him about various issues in his capacity as witness for Muhammad Nazaruddin, former treasurer of Demokrat Party.

Andi's answers were similar to those of fellow Demokrat cadre, Angelina Sondakh, in the previous trial of Nazaruddin.

Andi basically denied all allegations, including flow of funds from Mindo Rosalina Manulang, former staff of Nazaruddin. He also insisted that he's not the minister pointed by Rosalina of asking money from Nazaruddin's Permai Group.

Asked about Rp20 billion funds to his brother Choel Mallarangeng, including Rp6 billion spent for a luxury car purchased from a showroom in Pondok Indah, Jakarta, Andi said "he knew nothing about his brother's spending."

Ahmad Rivai, lawyer Mindo Rosalina Manulang, has previously said there are a minister who asked for kickback from athlete dormitory project. Rivai refused to reveal who is the minister, but saying the minister is scheduled to testify in court this week
On the trial, KPK Prosecutor also asked Andi about 10% commitment fee for his ministry in the athlete dormitory project. Andi, however, said he did not know anything about it. “No, I do not know it,” said Andi.
Andi also denied that he ever received money from Permai Group during the Demokrat Party's congress back in 2010 in order to smooth his candidacy as Demokrat Party Chairman. Andi lost the chairmanship race to Anas Urbaningrum.
Yulianis, vice director of Permai Group, has earlier said before the court that Mindo Rosalina Manulang asked Rp250 million to Permai Group for Andi Mallarangeng and Anas Urbaningrum chairmanship. (indra@theindonesiatoday.com)
