JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - Electronic products sales grew 27% to Rp24.8 trillion in 2011, compared to Rp19.6 trillion in 2010, mainly boosted by increased demand for flat panel display TV, Bisnis Indonesia reported this morning.
Rudyanto, chairman of Electronic Marketer Club (EMC), said the penetration of flat panel display TV in the country was strengthening in 2011 along with its declining price, to approach the price of tube TV.
"The main support for electronic sales growth last year was a jump in demand for flat panel display TV, mainly LCD (liquid crystal display), LED (light-emitting diodel) and plasma TV.
Based on EMC data, TV sales volume jumped 38% to 5.8 million units (Rp10.1 trillion) last year, compared to Rp4.03 million units (Rp7.31 trillion) in previous year.
Of total TV sales, tube TV sales accounted for 3.6 million units, represented 62% of total TV market. While the sales of flat panel display TV totaled 2.2 million units with total value of Rp6.5 trillion, represented 64.35% of total TV market by value.
Other electronic sales are washing machine and air condition (AC) products. EMC reported washing machine sales increased 6.67% to 1.6 million units in 2011, compared to 1.5 million units sold in 2010. While AC sales rose 14.28% to 1.6 million units last year, from 1.4 million units a previous year.
Ali Soebroto, chairman of Electronic Business Players Association (GABEL), expects local-manufactured electronic products only held around 40% of the national electronic products consumption as the rest was dominated by imported products.
For this year, Yeane Keet, Gabel's general secretary, said Gabel targets 20% electronic sales growth, lower than last year's growth of 27%, along with the increasing market competition and expected increase in prices. (hans@theindonesiatoday.com)
