Theindonesiatoday.com - Salamander Energy Inc plans to submit plan of development (POD) for Tutung Alpha gas field in East Kalimantan.
Salamander told investors Thursday that the group has prepared a Plan of Development for submission following appraisal success. Preparations are also well advanced for the drilling of the Tutung Alpha-3 appraisal well using the MB Century-28 land rig.
Tutung is a c. 50 Bcf gas discovery which, given the domestic demand for gas in East Kalimantan, the group believes can be commercial using a low-cost development approach.
Salamander is owner and operator of Bontang PSX and 75% interest in the SE Sangatta PSC. Work to date on the extensive 3D seismic dataset has highlighted numerous large prospects with the potential for a multi-TCF gas resource across the acreage, along with a significant potential oil resource. These prospects lie in water depths of approximately 300 – 500 metres and would require a deep-water drilling unit in order to test them.
A multi-well drilling programme is planned to commence in 2H 2012. In order to minimise mobilization costs and to attract a high quality drilling unit on competitive terms, the Group is working as part of a consortium that is tendering for a rig to be mobilised into Indonesia. The tendering process is underway with a view to securing a rig by year end.
Salamander had also on Thursday announced the successful appraisal of South Sebuku-2 well in the Bengara I PSC (Salamander 42%, Medco 58%). South Sebuku field is expected to deliver natural gas in the second half of 2012.
The SS-2 well was drilled to a total depth of 1,386 MDSS and encountered over 15 metres of net gas-bearing sandstones in the Tabul formation. Drill stem tests (DSTs) were conducted across three of the gas bearing zones and flowed at an aggregate rate of 10.9 MMscfd.
These results, together with the DST data from the South Sebuku-1 discovery well demonstrate the commerciality of the South Sebuku accumulation. The South Sebuku-2 well has been suspended as a potential future producer.
The operator prepared a Plan of Development prior to drilling of the SS-2 well which is being refined to incorporate the results of this latest well before submission to the Indonesian regulator for approval.
