Theindonesiatoday.com - Elders Ltd reported lower Indonesian livestock export revenues in 2010-2011 fiscal year by $49.9 million compared to the previous year following Indonesian market restrictions and Australian government imposed two-month suspension.
Elders’ total livestock export volume of 135,000 head was 35% lower compared to 2010 of 207,000 head. In total, Elders’ live export total revenue fell by $43 million due to the event.
“Livestock agency was adversely affected by the loss of sales into the live export trade to Indonesia caused by the Federal Government’s 3 month suspension of the trade,” the company said on its annual report.
Previously, Elders has estimated the total impact of suspension of live cattle export to Indonesia between $4.4 million and $7.3 million on July 2011. Elders has anticipated the impact over the three months to financial year end to be a further $2.9 - $5.8 million. This figure includes anticipated network flow on impacts of an estimated $2.2 - $4 million with the principal contributor being lower livestock earnings.
In Indonesia, the company owns one feedlot in Lampung named PT Elders Indonesia. Elders’ live export trade encompasses the supply of ‘feeder’ stock for slaughter in Indonesia and ‘long-haul’ live export of dairy and breeding cattle to markets seeking to supplement local herd.
