Theindonesiatoday.com - In contrast to bulk materials, Baltic Dry Index (BDI) dropped another 11.9% to 1,045 for the week ended February 4, 2011.
Devastating floods and Cyclone Yasi which hit Queensland are blamed for the substantial drop, plus low production season of China's factories for Lunar Year celebration.
Baltic Dry Index (BDI) has lost 62% from its most recent peak of 2784 in November 2010. The index rocked bottom at 663 in December 2009 following the commodities crash.
The index moved in contrary to most metals in London Metals Exchange. Tin and copper gained 5.2% and 4.9% respectively for the week, while nickel advanced 3.7%. Lead and zinc also gained substantially by 6.1% and 9.2%, while aluminium increased 5.2%. (teguh@theindonesiatoday.com)
