Theindonesiatoday.com - The Baltic Dry Index, a gauge for international shipment of bulk materials, ended the week of July 1st with 0.8% correction despite recovery of metals.

Baltic Dry Index (BDI) down 0.8% to 1,413, while Baltic Chemical Index (BCI) gained 3.1%. Baltic Petroleum Index (BPI) slashed 9.1% even though crude oil and gas prices recovered worldwide.

Most metals ended the week with substantial recovery. Nickel gained 5.5% to US$23,125 per ton, while tin recovered 3.2% to US$25,900 per ton. 

Lead also gained 4.2% to US$2,623 per ton, while zinc and aluminium advanced 4.3% and 1.3% respectively. Copper also bounced back 3.6% to US$9,301 per ton, leaving gold and silver as losers with 1% and 1.3% correction respecitvely. 

Palm oil also lost ground, down 2.6% to RM3,036 per ton for the benchmark September contracts, while in the JAKARTA physical market, the commodity lost 2.7% to Rp7,600 per ton. (teguh@theindonesiatoday.com)
