Theindonesiatoday.com - Baltic Dry Index, benchmark for global shipment of bulk materials, advanced 0.7% for the week ended May 20, the fourth consecutive week of gain.
Baltic Dry Index (BDI) closed at 1,329 to tracking metals. Copper gained 5.5% to US$9,007 in the week, while lead surged 8.1% to US$2,456. Nickel also gained 1% to US$24,210 per ton, while tin lost 2.1% to US$28,355 per ton.
Thermal coal spot prices also declined 1.6% in Newcastle Port (Australia) to US$116.8 per ton, while in Richard Bay Port (South Africa) dropped 2.5% to US$119.6 per ton.
Baltic Chemical Index (BCI) and petroleum (BPI) closed in different direction, where BCI surged 7.1%, while BPI dropped 8.8%.
Crude oil gained 0.5% to US$100.1 per barrel on Nymex, but declined 0.9% to US$112.78 per barrel for London Brent.
crude palm oil (CPO), however, gained substantially by 4.3% to RM3,390 per ton for the benchmark August contracts. In the physical market in Indonesia, the commodity gained 2.5% to Rp8,972 per Kg (VAT 10% included). (teguh@theindonesiatoday.com)
