Bayu Krisnamurthi, Vice Minister of Trade, said the revision or amendment of the regulation will set how many foreign franchisers can open their outlets in Indonesia.
"Number of foreign franchises will be limited although many interests. We do not intend to protect local players but the restriction is also ruled in the countries of foreign franchisers," he explained.
Bayu said the new regulation will also set more details about the differences of between franchise business and partnership or business opportunity.
"The Trade Ministry will also make different criteria for franchise and non-franchise business by giving special logo," he said.
Gunaryo, general director for domestic trade at the Trade Ministry, said the amendment of regulation for franchise business will be made this year. "We need to manage the foreign franchisers for eliminating their monopoly," he said.
He added the owner of foreign franchise brands is required not to give exclusive license to only one company in Indonesia. (hans@theindonesiatoday.com)
