JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - National motorcycles sales totaled 645,715 units in January 2012, jumped 44.1% compared to 448,102 units in December 2011, Bisnis Indonesia reported this morning.
PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) dominated the market, selling 382,473 units in January, or 59.2% of national market share.
PT Yamaha Kencana Motor Indonesia (YKMI) followed in the second place, selling 205,304 units (31.8% market share), PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) in third place with total sales of 49,315 units (7.6%) and Kawasaki that sold 7,623 units (1.2%).
Compared to January 2011 (664,983 units), national motorcycles sales in January 2012 declined 2.9%.
Sigit Kumala, commercial department head of the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), said the decline of national motorcycle sales in January 2012 was mainly caused by the extreme weather. (hans@theindonesiatoday.com)
