Garuda Indonesia Airlines, Utilize Additional IPO Proceeds for Purchasing New Planes

JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - State flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia Airlines Tbk (GIAA) plans to utilize additional Rp1.8 trillion of IPO proceeds for purchasing new planes, Bisnis Indonesia reported this morning.

Elisa Lumbantoruan, GIAA's finance director, said the airline will seek approval from shareholders in the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held today for the plan.

"The IPO proceeds are scheduled to be totally utilized until 2014, but we prefer to spend this year because to buy new planes would benefit the airline rather than to place on the banking deposit," he said.

Elisa said Garuda plans to add planes to total 194 units by 2015, from current 154 units.

Pujobroto, GIAA's vice president for corporate communication, earlier said Garuda orders 20 new plans this year, consisting of four B737-800NG, two A330-200, five 100 sub seater planes, and nineteen A320 planes for Citilink.

The new planes ordered this year will make Garuda's planes to total 106 with average age of 5.7 years. Through Qantum Leap program, Garuda plans to operate 154 planes in 2015. (hans@theindonesiatoday.com)
