Siam Cement Acquires Jayamix

SYDNEY, Indonesia Today - Thailand-based Siam Cement Group acquires 100% ownership in Boral Ltd’s Indonesian construction material business ‘Jayamix’ for US$135 million.

The sale includes Boral’s concrete, quarry and precast operations, including limestone reserves in Indonesia. In 2011 fiscal year, the collective businesses generated revenue of US$150 million and EBITDA of US$14 million for Boral.

This is another major acquisition for Siam Cement after Chandra Asri Petrochemical (TPIA) and Keramika Indonesia Asosiasi (KIA) last year.

The transaction will be effected via separate sale agreements in respect of the quarry and non-quarry businesses and is dependent on typical conditions precedent, including regulatory approvals. Transaction completion is expected to occur before end 2012 fiscal year with the proceeds will be used to reduce debt.

“The sale of the Indonesian construction materials business is in line with our strategy to realign the product portfolio to focus on core businesses where we hold leading market positions,” Chief Executive Mark Selway stated.

Boral is one of Indonesian leading producer of ready-mixed concrete with a capacity of 2.2 million cubic metre and operates under brand “Jayamix” across its 40 plants in Java and Sumatera. (bintang@theindonesiatoday.com)
