JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - PT Indomarco Prismatama, controlled by Salim Group, plans to open up 43 new Indomaret convenience stores this year.
Wiwiek Yusuf, marketing director of PT Indomarco, told Detik.com that the company has already operated 57 convenience stores. "The convenience store format will be expanded to 100 outlets this year," Wiwiek said.
This is a respond to growing presence of 7-Eleven (Modern Group) and Lawson in the country. Midi Utama Indonesia (MIDI) has earlier signed master license agreement with Lawson Inc, the second largest convenience store retailer in Japan last year.
PT Modern International Tbk (MDRN), operator of 7-Eleven in Indonesia, allocates capital expenditure (capex) of Rp250 billion this year, to fund the expansion of 7-Eleven convenience stores. The company plans to open 60 7-Eleven outlets next year, which cost Rp3 billion per one store, or Rp180 billion in total.
Indomarco is currently the largest player in minimarket format ahead of Alfamart (Sumber Alfaria Trijaya). (Indonesia Today)
