Garuda to Cut Flights to Amsterdam

JAKARTA, Indonesia Today - State flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia Airlines Tbk (GIAA) decides to cut flights to Amsterdam, starting on March 1, 2012, as the European crisis had affected passengers traffic.

The airline said in a press statement today that it will cut flights to Amsterdam to 4 flights a week from current 7 flights. Flights from Jakarta to Amsterdam are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, while flights from Amsterdam to Jakarta are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The flights will be served by A330-200 aircraft with capacity of 222 sits, of which 186 seats for economic class and 36 seats for business class.

Meanwhile, for flights to Tokyo and Taipei, Garuda plans to open new route from Denpasar to Haneda (Tokyo), starting April 27, 2012 and new route from Jakarta to Taipei starting May 19, 2012.

For next month, it said, flights for Jakarta-KUALA LUMPUR will increase to 3 flights per day from current 2 flights per day.

The flights for Denpasar-Haneda will be served for 5 days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) using Airbus 330-300 aircraft with capacity of 257 sits, of which 215 sits for economic class and 42 sits for executive class.

The flights for Jakarta-Taipei will be served every day (7 days a week) using Boeing 737-800 New Generation aircraft with capacity of 156 sits, of which 144 sits for economic class.

Currently Garuda serves 5 flights for Jakarta-Pekanbaru per day, 4 flights for Jakarta-Batam and 2 flights for Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur.

With new route Denpasar-Haneda, Garuda said, flight for Denpasar-Nagoya route will be closed starting April 10, 2012.

In the country, Garuda also plans to add one flight per day for Jakarta-Pekanbaru and Jakarta-Batam routes. The airline will also open new route Bandung-Surabaya starting February 10, 2012, using Boeing 737-500 aircraft with capacity of 96 sits. (hans@theindonesiatoday.com)
