IDX Closes Below 3,800, Commodity Leads Fall

Theindonesiatoday.com - Composite index of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) closed lower by 0.46% (17.72 points) at 3,798.55, with commodity-related stocks leading the fall.

Plantation stocks dropped most. Sampoerna Agro and Gozco Plantation slashed 2.84% and 2.53% respectively, Bakrie Sumatera Plantation fell 2.41%, Sinar Mas Agro lost 1.79%, Tunas Baru Lampung dropped 1.72%, and Astra Agro declined 1.06%.

Mining stocks also fell. Darma Henwa dropped 3.26%, Timah shed 1.79%, Bukit Asam declined 1.58%, while Adaro Energy and Bumi Resources closed down by 1.08% and 0.69% respectively.

Banking stocks were also in red. BII fell 3.17%, Bank Mandiri lost 2.78%, Bank BRI dropped 1.59%, Bank BTN declined 1.20%, and Bank CIMB slipped 0.58%.

Blue chip stocks, interestingly, closed higher. Astra International gained 0.44%, Bank BCA jumped 2.10%, and PT Telkom rose 0.67%.

In regional, KOSPI and Nikkei led the market fall by 1.52% and 1.45% each, followed by Hang Seng (-0.44%), KLSE (-0.37%), SSE (-0.29%), All Ordinaries (-0.27%), and Straits Times (-0.19%).

Rupiah weakened further by 11 points to Rp8,577 per US Dollar. Crude oil has plummeted to US$97.45 per barrel on NYMEX for Asian trading. (bintang@theindonesiatoday.com)
