Theindonesiatoday.com - Standard&Poor's Ratings Services (S&P) had on Wednesday (November 24) raised its long-term corporate credit rating on Indonesia-based property developer PT Lippo Karawaci Tbk (LPKR) to 'B+' from 'B'. At the same time, S&P also raised rating on LPKR's senior unsecured notes to 'B+' from 'B'.
"The outlook is stable and reflects our view that the improved operating result is sustainable at least over 2011, supported by favorable industry conditions," said Weekhim Loy, S&P's credit analyst.
He said the rating on LPKR reflects the company's aggressive financial risk profile and volatile cash flow from the cyclical property development business. "The factors that offset these weaknesses are the company's leading position as a domestic property developer, its large and low-cost land bank, and its increasing focus on the more stable healthcare, hospitality, and infrastructure businesses," Weekhim said.
"Lippo Karawaci's operating environment has improved significantly, with strong sales of residential homes, and better contribution from its healthcare and hospitality businesses, which, in our view, mitigate the cyclicality and execution risks inherent in the property development business."
In the 12 months to Sept. 30, 2010, LPKR's EBITDA rose about 21.4% to Rp650.3 billion. (hans@theindonesiatoday.com)
