Samin Tan, controlling shareholder of Borneo Lumbung Energi (BORN), partner of Bakrie Group in Bumi Plc, has in late November suggested a merger of BUMI and BRAU. The merger of BUMI and BRAU, according to Samin, would raise ownership of Bumi Plc (will be jointly controlled by BORN and Bakrie Group) in BUMI to 51%.
Bumi Plc has gained substantially from as low as 681 pence in early November 2011, but still way below its peak of 1400 pence in April 2011.
BUMI has gained substantially in the past three weeks by about 16%. BORN gained slightly to Rp860 (Jan 20), which is 50% below its peak in May 2011. BRAU, meanwhile, closed at Rp425 Friday, 29% below its peak in June 2011.
Bumi Plc currently owns 85% shares in BRAU and 29.2% in BUMI, which controls 87% of Bumi Resources Minerals (BRMS). BRMS' last quoted price is Rp570, 29% below its peak last year. (Indonesia Today)
