Theindonesiatoday.com - PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BBRI) has some options including to merger Bank Mutiara into its banking unit for fulfilling the central bank's regulation on the single entity ownership in banking industry.
Bank Indonesia (BI), central bank, only allows a bank to have one syariah and one conventional banks.
BRI currently has one conventional bank (PT Bank Agroniaga Tbk) and one syariah bank (PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Syariah).
Sofyan Basir, BRI's president director, said BRI is now still studying to acquire Bank Mutiara.
"We will undertake a due diligence on Bank Mutiara if we are demanded to take over Bank Mutiara," he was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia.
Indonesia's Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) expects Rp6.7 trillion from the divestment. The amount is similar to total funds used to bail out the bank in late 2008.
LPS had on September 8 disclosed that the divestment of Bank Mutiara had been failed as three investors that had submitted their confirming letter of interest failed to fulfill some administration requirements such as the information of their ultimate investor and documents of audited financial report.
